Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon's Creator: Naoko Takeuchi

Biography

Naoko Takeuchi was born March 15th, 1967 and is a manga artist most well known for being the creator of Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon. She currently lives in Tokyo with her manga artist husband, Yoshihiro Togashi (creator of the series Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter) and their son, nicknamed Petit Ouji.

Naoko Takeuchi graduated from the Kyoritsu University of Pharmacy, receiving a degree in chemistry. Later, she became a licensed pharmacist. In high school, she was a member of the astronomy club.

Takeuchi has earned several awards for her various manga series. These awards include: the 2nd Nakayoshi Comic Prize for Newcomers (for "Yume ja Nai no ne" in 1985), Nakayoshi's New Artist Award (for "Love Call" in 1986), and finally, the 17th Kodansha Manga Award (for her mega hit Sailor Moon).

Naoko Takeuchi is a well-known and respected manga artist, even outside of Japan. This is mostly due to the success of Sailor Moon, which was widely distributed and marketed in the United States and worldwide. Although she is known for being both the author and artist for her series, she has collaborated with other artists in the past.

Takeuchi rarely makes pubic appearances and has attended a single manga-related event in America, San Diego Comic-Con in 1998.
