Summary:
We are introduced to a young girl named Usagi Tsukino who makes her debut running late to school. On her helter-skelter dash to beat the school bell, she tramples a small black cat. The cat has two bandages on its forehead, which Usagi removes, revealing a small crescent moon-shaped "bald spot." Before she has much time to question the strange birthmark, she remembers that she's late and scurries away.
At school, Usagi receives a graded exam with a poor grade, 30. To cheer herself up, she goes to the Osa-P jewelry store, which is owned by her friend Naru's Mother. The shop is holding its first ever sale, which Naru thinks is strange, and the customers are in frenzy. Usagi leaves the store still depressed by her low test score. Frustrated, she crumples up the test and hurls it over her shoulder. The crumpled paper collides with a young man in a tuxedo who teases Usagi for her poor academic skill.
Usagi stops by the Crown Arcade and plays the Sailor V video game for a bit, where she encounters the black cat again. Motoki Furuhata, the arcade employee and Usagi's crush, says the strange cat has been spotted several times recently.
It is revealed that Naru's mother is not who she seems and the sale at Osa-P is a trap to sell energy-draining jewelry to its patrons. Naru stumbles upon her mother amidst this revelation and is attacked by the decoy.
When Usagi gets home, she is scolded by her mother for her poor academic performance. She goes up to her room and takes a nap, only to be awakened by the black cat from earlier. The cat, named Luna, gives her a brooch and tells her that she is a chosen warrior. Usagi says "Moon Prism Power, Make Up" and is able to transform into Sailor Moon by the power of the brooch. The goggles enable her to see that Naru is in danger, and Sailor Moon rushes to her rescue.
Upon arriving at the scene, Sailor Moon finds Naru's mother's doppelganger's true form, a monster. The monster, along with the manipulated Osa-P customers, attacks Sailor Moon, who is terrified. Luna encourages Sailor Moon to fight, but instead she starts crying, which causes waves to emit from the jewelry on her hair. A mysterious masked man in a tuxedo appears, who tells Sailor Moon this is her chance. She quickly destroys the monster with "Moon Tiara Boomerang."
The man says though he didn't find the Illusionary Silver Crystal he did find something interesting. He introduces himself as Tuxedo Mask and says he will remember Sailor Moon. He then exits the scene.
The next day at school, Naru is telling her friends all about the strange occurrences of the previous night. Usagi supposes it all must have been real after all.
